Hi all,

I'm looking at purchasing my first HTIB.  The Panasonic SC-PT870GN-K is on sale at noel leeming for $699.  One reason why I'm interested in this is that my plasma is also a Panasonic.  I would like to take advantage of the viera link.  Other than that, I'm a complete noob when it comes to home theatre.  Is this model any good?  or can you recommend any other system.  i'm also looking at buying a blu ray in the future..  can i hook the blu ray player in this system?

here's the specs:

Panasonic DVD Home Theatre System
SC-PT870GN-K
11924

The SC-PT870 is a tallboy DVD Home Theatre that achieves an extremely pure and clean sound with a powerful bass. The integrated iPod dock gives you a great way to enjoy music and video on your iPod, and VIERA link controls everything with a single remote

Features

    * 1000W RMS
    * HDMI & 1080P upscaling
    * iPod dock and USB Port
    * VIERA link
    * Tallboy speakers x4
    * Kelton Subwoofer, Bamboo cone Speakers
    * Low power consumption
    * Wireless ready (optional wireless kit required SH-FX70)
    * Smart set-up with Auto speaker setting

any help is appreciated! thanks!

The system doesn't have any HDMI inputs, so you can't hook-up a Blu-Ray player in the most satisfactory way. I'm afraid the simple solution for HTiB and Blu-Ray is to buy a system with built-in Blu-Ray player rather than built-in DVD player like Panasonic's much more expensive SC-BT207GN9K
