There is no difference but I think he may be getting the Freeview guide from terrestrial and the 'other' broadcasters guide (whose name we may not mention) from satellite.

I was just thinking therefore that he could get both freeview and "everything else" from the DVB-S Tuner, in one run, keeping things a little bit simpler.

If I could do that - that woudl be sweet.  then i woudlnt have to tie up a -t tuner. I did buy the-s card purely for epg collecting ...... so - if I could use the tuner parameter to dive straight into this card then that would be awesome.

It may have already been explained elsewhere - but is there a difference between the freeview and 'other' guide?

You can collect everthing from the dvb-s tuner. Just list all the frequencies in the ini file.

You will need Station lines in the ini file to exclude all of the 'other' broadcasters stations you don't want. The last time I tried it there were 87 'other' stations in total.

You can set the last parameter on every frequency line to Y for MHEG format collection because if it's not available on a frequency it collects it in EIT format anyway (one of the 'other' broadcasters formats).

The whole thing sounds like more trouble than it's worth, I might just stick with http://nz.tv.yahoo.com/

You say that with a certain bias... Seriously though, once you know the benefits of a custom guide set up all by yourself you'll never go back.

Having an electronic guide on your HTPC is way better than having to visit a website to check what's on... And you can't program series recording, etc...

buzzy:Incidentally, while there's some good documentation scattered around on this thread, it was some effort to get things like the frequencies and other options sorted out. I'd be happy to volunteer some time to write a how-to and provide common example configurations, if that'd be helpful. Perhaps the SourceForge documentation tab, or inside the download package would be good? Just a thought :)

If you want to create a one page document, with frequencies listings I am happy to post on its own page on Geekzone with lins back to the download at sourceForge... Might as well benefit of all the Google juice possible.

Agreed, but I think some of us with IT experience take for granted the skills we have and that running a HTPC is not really an area I suggest a non IT user enter.  If creating INI files with the core details proves difficult, then there are going to be many more obstacles along the HTPC journey which I going to reduce the pleasure/nivana we all experience :)

Buzzy : Happy to post a one pager on Sourceforge too ;-) thekiwi is right, we sometimes forget that things we take for granted can appear daunting & confusing to other users.

Two quick things:

- a reboot solved the second tuner issue I mentioned on the previous page, and

- I will try to write up a how-to and samples for NZ locales, then provide it to Mauricio and giggles to post. Feedback and comments gratefully appreciated :)

Underway. Unfortunately real work has been full on :-( No ETA sorry, but it will include all of the frequency details so people won't have to go web searching.

Yeah I can certainly see it's advantages. What I really need is some help in plain english to get a full electronic guide running in media centre but I don't expect people to go out of there way & I don't want to harp on about it. :)

1.Download the Grabber
2.Edit the "EPG Collector.ini" file: comment everything that is not related to your use (DVB-T or DVB-S)
3.Run the program
4.Download Big Screen EPG
5.Run the program and load the .XML file into Media Center

If you want you can use other tools, but Big Screen is easy to use. You can create a Scheduled Task and add the EPG Collector as a step so it automates the whole process.

If running Windows 7 you might want to output the XML file to a personal or temporary folder instead of the default.

The thing you will need to know is where you are to then use the correct frequency settings. In our Freeview forum there's a sticky post with all frequencies.

Have just bought a USB dvb-s2 modem (Tevii S6600).  It works with teh bundled software etc so I can watch tv

It worked perfectly for two runs on epg grabber using satellite.ini so I decided to edit up an ini file etc to skip stations etc and  guess what!! - It wouldn't work.  So I tried with thedefault files again and still no joy.  it still works with thebundled software however.  Reboot did nothing.  Is it something simple?  log below.
