You may have to change your graphics card to 'output to TV'. On your desktop right click - properties > settings - there should be a disply option.

Have you got the cable plugged in? I have one of these and once plugged into a TV I press [Fn] + [f4] and it switches to external output.

The RCA plug goes in the yellow plus where the red white ones go right?

The Fn-F4 (or other combination depending on laptop model/manufacturer) is for external monitor, not TV.

Jama is right on the first post: if you have a S-Video output on your laptop you plug the adapter cable and plug the yellow bit into the TV video input. You will have to open the Display Properties and you will have (if the appropriate drivers are installed) an option to output the signal to the S-Video adapter.

Note the S-Video adapter is not the same as the external monitor.

I used to have a Dell Latitude with the S-Video adapter, and used it to play DVDs on TVs while in a hotel.

Well it seems I will need the right driver since I can't find the setting where would be the best place to find the right driver?

Is your Compaq running the pre-loaded OS or have you installed a different version? If so you are likely to be out of luck as Compaq will only support the pre-loaded OS. I had a preloaded XP-Pro that I dual booted with Win 2K and Compaq would not supply a 2K driver for it.
