Anyone had any experience with USB MultiMedia controllers?  Essentially just the multimedia portion of the controls from a keyboard.

I expect it's the type of thing that might be handy on a HTPC aswell, but I'm looking for one to screw to the end of my desk so I can switch tracks on DVD's while watching them from bed (swivelled screen).

So far I've found the following two that might do the trick:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&Q=&is=REG&O=productlist&sku=307847
http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/show_product_info.php?input[product_code]=KB-ZTK330&input[category_id]=

Anyone know of a similar product in NZ, or easier ways to acheive the desired effect (programming an IR remote maybe?).

Thx.
Jp.

some HP pocket pc's have the appropriate type of infrared (CIR or the other one - I forget) which allows a software application to use infrared in a remote capacity. If it had wi-fi it could make a handy beside tool sitting in a cradle but the outlay may be too much. A multi function remote like the harmony could be useful but you wouldnt screw either to your bedside. I suppose a USB connection indicates it relates to DVD's on a PC so it might rule these options out. Some devices have HID bluetooth profiles and sony ericsson have solid implementation for a music/dvd/presentation remote replacing the mouse.

Yeah, i thought about that, but given it's right next to the pc itself, it was easier to look at usb options.  Might look into the infrared option though, but I'd still need an IR receiver, and a program that can emulate the standard 'next track, play, pause, etc' that you get with the multimedia keyboards.

Not really what you seem to be looking for, but a useful wee gadget:

I use an iMon Pad at home on my HTPC box.

Hrm. yeah, not quite what I was after, but still quite a cute unit. Will have to remember it's out there.

Thx.
