RunningMan:
GingerNinja: I bought the 50" V20 about 3 weeks ago now.  Was on special for $1649 (2199 less 20%), so try and aim for that.

Where was that?

Dick Smith had it on sale at that price, but I got from Heathcotes (100% Electric) - they had a sale on to match DS's sale.

Contact the Sony Outlet Store, got our Bravia 55" LCD for half retail and has nothing wrong with it whatsoever. AND it is definitely under your budget.

So give it a go

Picked up a Panasonic TH-P50V20Z on friday night. Totally happy, especially when I compare it to the TH-42PV8(which was ok for an entry level plasma) it replaced.

Got it for $1800 from Harvey Norman. Pretty happy with that even though DSE had it for $1759 yesterday - not much stock though.

It's for cash but I suspect that over the weekend they would have done it interest free given that DSE were advertising online:

LOL. the topic asks us what 50 foot TV we would buy, and why.. that would have to be one big movie room to house it!

I don't remember the model of my buzzing Samsung Plasma, but if you're going plasma i'd stick with Panasonic. They're widely recommended here.

I was in DSE today and they had none in stock, so I'm guessing it was a weekend only thing?
The website says they're out of stock too... wonder if future shipments will be difficult due to the Tsunami/Quake in Japan?

To be honest, I would go for a projector. Even in a lounge set up.

Bigger picture for the same price.

Me too, I have a 50" plasma and it's a TV.  I don't get that wow factor you do at the movies.
If my lounge layout had allowed for it, I'd definitely have been going for a projector for movies, and a smaller TV for TV shows like the news etc.

I did have the Epson 3500 but moved into an apartment with no curtains which made viewing impossible even at night. So had to sell it.

Have since moved into an apartment with a massive lounge that is nice and dark. So am looking for a new PJ. Can get the Mitsi HC4000 off ebay for under $2k so am awfully tempted. Just trying to convince the fiance now...6 months out from the wedding...

Wish me luck!!!!

I have a projector, dla-hd1 in my movie room.

Wouldn't recommend one for a normal tv room. A Tv with built-in tuner is much more convenient.
