Hi guys,

Looking for a media box for my inlaws that is easy to navigate and will just be used to play photos (with transitions and effects - not just photo, click, photo...) and movies from the video camera. It would stream from a server, so no storage required.

I first thought the apple tv would be a good choice for displaying photos with transitions and effects but when I saw the menu system the first few options were for renting movies and youtube etc which the inlaws would not be using and would be frustrated to get beyond that. The photo slideshows looked great, but the menu wouldn't suit. Also the limited format support of video files (without jailbreaking) would be annoying. Can the menu be customised...?

So, features I would like;

  • simple menu setup - if you could customise, that would be great. Effectively photos, videos and music is all thats needed.

  • smooth 1080 playback with a descent range of formats supported

  • photo slideshow that has some nice fade transitions and zoom/pan effects

Look forward to your recommendations (and ones to avoid).

Shane
