I'm not sure now that downloading and installing the motherboard driver package from the ASUS website has actually done anything. It said it has completed but looking at device manager most of the "System device" drivers are Microsoft circa June 2006 V6.1.xxxx?
The readme.txt in the ASUS download says

Edit:

Tried running the setup.exe for the ASUS motherboard drivers from command prompt with the "-overall" switch and it has now updated a whole heap of drivers including the PCIe root devices to Intel V9.1.1.1020.
Looks like the default witch options won't replace existing drivers, only install missing ones.

I'll see if this makes any difference to my remaining TV issues.

Was a problem right from the start for me - the CD (or DVD, don't remember) that was supplied with my ASUS board would not run on my system because it's 64bit. It's a 64bit board. Stooipd. So I had to pick and choose through the downloads available....never really know whether you have everything or not....

My video is now mostly stable. I still occasionally get a small amount of pixellation which seems to occur about 30 seconds after changing channel or 30 seconds after skipping through adverts in a recording. No video Stutter. Also the video still isn't as smooth as it should be. I think someone else was having the same "pixelation 30 second after issue"?

Since the whole 30-40 sec pixelation issue was brought to my attention I now notice it on my xbox 360's as extenders (they're hooked to an older PC with an ASUS mobo with 3200 graphics, AMD CPU, 4GB ram and Seagate Pipeline 1TB HDDs. Video plays perfect on the 360 extenders from skips or start and then about 40 sec in (not every time though) it will slightly pixelation/studder for a millisecond. Having discovered this it means it is not a grpahic card issue of the PC as it is the 360 that is doing the graphic work as an extender, not the computer. Unless of course the xbox 360 has the same graphic issue which i doubt, although it is an ATI card in the 360 isn't it? From memory I have not installed any chipset drivers for the computer, it is using standard Windows 7 ones.

Anyways, I think this means that the 30-40 sec issue is related to either: chipset, HDD, or drivers etc. It could possibly just be the Microsoft DTV codec that is used for H264 freeview causing it though. It does not do this on Satellite (mpeg2), just Freeview HD.

Now I really want to check out the newer computer i built with the nvidia GT440 card to inspect it like a hawk to 100% confirm whether it is actually doing the 30-40 sec glitch on Freeview HD.

Not sure and it may be my imagination but I think to 40 second pixelation has improved since updating the motherboard drivers. If I count out the seconds and watch for it I still see a small amount of pixelation at the 30-40 second mark. Hard to tell how long it is maybe only a frame or two. If I'm not watching for it it mostly goes by un-noticed now but it bugs me because I know it's there.

I think this problem is more common that we think, people just havn't noticed it.

A week ago I picked up a bargain priced Acer Revo RL100 HTPC. This PC is taylor made as a HTPC. It comes with a dual core CPU, ION 2 Graphics, an Avermedia UHF tuner card and win7 Home Premium.

I have this connected to my Yamaha reciever with HDMI. FreeviewHD is flawless except guess what? it sometimes glitches at the 30 - 40 second mark. nowhere else.

I think this is an issue with Win7 64 bit media centre or the foundation TV/DVD H.264 decoder. Some hardware combinations may make it more obvious than others but I think it's a fundamental bug with media centre.

Try skipping a recording and count to 40 and have a close look? Do this few times and I think you will see glitches.

I have the same 40s pixelation issue on my system. I did have other issues with stutter and pixelation at seemingly varied times, but after you suggested earlier in this thread to disable some of the settings in Catalyst Control Center they have pretty much cleared up, leaving just the 40s pixelation problem.

I have Win 7 64bit, use Windows Media Center, onboard ati video driver (HDMI) and have a Hauppauge 2200 dual tuner and a pinnacle usb tuner. I get the problem on recorded tv and live tv, both 40s or so after starting tv for the first time, skipping forward or back, and after changing a channel. As far as I can tell happens on all tuners.

Seems a lot like what you've got. Just wanted to let you know I've been experiencing it too.

Yep, definitely get the 40s issue on my system. Once again Win 7 64 bit seems to be the common factor. I use extenders and they too do the 40s issue. Seeing as we have a mixture of graphic cards (xbox 360 extender, nvidia, ATI, onboard, discrete etc) I think that it is fair to say that it is not graphic card related. I don't know why but if I find out that a PC problem (or bug) is not just related to me but everyone seems to have it then it doesn't bother me as much...

The Windows DTV decoder under 64 seems to be the issue with NZ Freeview. Just checking does anyone have a 32 bit system they could also check with NZ Freeview to see if it still does the 40s issue?

Right! Got the replacement HVR-2210 and swapped out my TD-500 with it....

Perfect!

No stuttering, no pixelation, no corruption, just clear, smooth, pure digital goodness :D

I changed nothing other than the physical card, although I did have to install a new driver for the card and it is a PCI-E card as opposed to the TD-500 which is PCI.

So whether this was a driver or hardware issue (again, considering it works flawlessly in XP, I'm going with driver), the TD-500 is not a good solution for Win7.

The PVR-2210? Brilliant :)

LOL. I had almost exactly the reverse experience. Got the replacement TD-500 and swapped out my HVR-2200 with it...

Perfect!

I wonder if some hardware shipping out of Hauppage is just bad...
