Because as per the first post in this thread "I'm having problems with stuttering video on live TV on my Media centre PC".

This is with a fully updated Win7 64 pro PC, up to date Hauppauge drivers, up to date ATI Catalyst driver and microsoft foundation codecs

You talk in several posts about installing additional codec packs. What additional codec packs have you installed? Did you have a need to install these at all or did you just install them thinking you needed to? The only additional requirement for media playback with Windows7 is a filter for MKV, and you can choose between the proper path with Media Foundation support (DiVX is the best option) or just a splitter.

I've never seen an issue with the MS DTV codec for H.264 and don't know anybody who doesn't use this because it just works so well.

I have had Shark007 32bit codec pack on my PC since building it september last year. I had a codec pack "geordian knot" on XP that added a lot of functionality.

I restored the default codec settings and removed the shark007 32 bit codec pack and still had the video stutter issue. I have since reinstalled the latest 32 bit and 64 bit versions of shark007. These are the only additional codecs installed. H264 is set to use FFDshow codec

While it hasn't fixed the video stutter completely, it seems to have improved the LiveTV video performance when focus is removed from media centre. The video was jumpy and looked to me like it was dropping frames before when focus was lost.

I am quite happy with using the microsoft codecs, I'm just trying every avenue to fix the video stutter.

2.9Ghz I7 870, Win7 64 pro. 4GB Ram.

Have you actually yet tried the MS DTV Codec to see if this actually fixes your issues?

IMHO all these codec packs are a total waste of time under Windows7 unless there is a specific need as Windows supports every major format except for MKV natively. They tend to seriously screw up the Direct Show merits and can often be very hard to fully remove.

Actually, I have wondered this also. Would be useful, in addition to signal strength too maybe. MediaPortal has both, in addition to being able to choose which codec gets used.

I still think you should also run diagnostics on your Western Digital Black drive.
Jump on the Western Digital website and download the diagnostic tools under the support section.

I have two drives in the PC. 1TB WD Caviar Black (WD1002FAEX) boot drive and 2TB (WD2001FASS) data drive with media and TV Buffer on the 2TB drive.
SMART status for both drives is OK. Quick tests on both drives are Pass.

Not sure what to make of the individual attribute numbers higher is good? as long as the number is greater than threshold the drive is OK?

Can I safely run the Extended test from windows?

sittingduckz: I have the same issue Win7 Pro 64 bit PC, Hauppauge HVR2200 with latest driver. I7 CPU, 6GB ram, nvidia gtx260 graphics. I been trying to cure this for ages.

My issues, random pauses and corruption in the recorded DVB-T went away when I replaced my pcie HVR2200 with a pci NOVA-TD.

So in my case, it was the HVR2200 that only mostly worked. Tried everything software to resolve, tuner hardware change fixed it.

Have also tried MediaPortal.

On the media portal default codecs I am seeing interlacing issues. These go away if I choose Microsoft DTV codecs and I get a great quality picture but I am still seeing stutter or occasional pixelation. I occasionally see pixelation occurring when I launch another app on the primary display.

Can I increase the task priority of media centre or media portal? May this help?

I havn't persevered with the other codecs in media portal yet. Will continue playing.

Before anyone asks. I have good signal Hauppauge signal monitor says C/N ratio 33, 0 errors (recoverable & non recoverable).

Interesting though, Media portal says signal strength zero, quality 100?

Yeah, this is what mine says too. Not very helpful!

Have you simply tried this with MediaPortal or WMC in a single display scenario?

If you can make a backup can I suggest starting from scratch? Rebuild Windows, make sure correct drivers are installed for all devices (manufactures not MS) and patch. Then setup media centre. I think by now with everything you have done with the codecs it will be very difficult to clean up. Windows 7's built in codecs are the best option for Media Centre so rebuild and try them without any possibility of third party ones getting in the way.

Thanks for this. I have installed Catalyst 11.8 beta now and, touch wood, It's looking ok so far on TV3 on DTT(HD) for an hour or so.

Still dropping frames fullscreen when mouse/keyboard focus is on my primary monitor, but looks good when focus is on media centre TV, or when windowed rather than fullscreen. Odd.
I guess if i'm working on the primary monitor I'm not concentrating on TV anyway :)

I'll confirm in a couple of days.

I initially purchased a Sapphire Radeon HD 6450, 1024MB because it was fanless for my HTPC.

But after the problems that you have been exhibiting, I ended up buying a NVIDIA GeForce GT 520, 1024MB fanless.

The card should arrive tomorrow, but so far I have not tried the Sapphire Radeon with the new drivers. Will give it a go and report back.

Has anybody else had experience with the following NVIDIA card???
