Those screen shots from SamF are exactly what I am getting. As suggested earlier in the thread I applied the latest Intel drivers for the G840 (thought I had them, thought wrong) and I think I have seen an improvement, but still there.

The thing is I am using Win7 MC, not MP.

Hauppauge card though, and still Win7.

The issue isn't the media player / TV app used, I've definitely proven that. This happens in MP, MC & WinTV (the Hauppauge provided TV app).

Also I've eliminated video drivers as a cause; I've tried a number of different versions with no change and seen the corruption come and go with no driver changes (only swapping back to XP on my media PC) on my main PC running a remote MP client.

So we have 2 points in common; a Hauppauge card and Win7. As I mentioned before, my brother is running a Hauppauge HVR2200 on Win7 without any issues...???

I've tried Hauppauge and Avermedia tuners, ATI & Nvidia video cards. video stutter/pixelation is reduced on Nvidia but still present.

Win7 Pro 64bit Mediacentre. What Motherboards are you guys using? I'm Asus P7P55D-E. Have you tried a motherboard BIOS update, thats my next test.

Oh yeah, I forgot you'd tried the other tuner. Still, they may have something in common...

I'm pulling out my tuner card and putting it in my main PC now.

My media PC has an Asus P5N-E mainboard.

smac: which version of the Hauppauge drivers are you running?

Ok, I put the tuner card into my main PC, a pretty much clean new build of Win7 & installed the latest Hauppauge drivers and MP; there is still corruption!

So that rules out the mainboard & any mainboard drivers!

So the only logical conclusion is that there is something wrong with the tuner Win7 drivers, or some component of Win7 which is interfering with these particular cards.

Can anyone see a flaw in my logic or the elimination process I've taken?

Possible causes for this issue
Media Application
PC or Tuner Hardware
Video Drivers or Codecs
PC or Tuner Drivers
OS incompatibility

Elimination Steps
Same hardware & OS, different media apps; Corruption present in all apps.
Conclusion: Issue is not a media application one.

Same hardware, different OS; XP - Fine. Win7 - Corruption.
Conclusion: Hardware is fine

Same MP Client, different MP TV Server OS; Win7 TV Server, Win7 Client - Corruption. XP TV Server, Unchanged Win7 Client - Fine.
Conclusion: Issue is not video codecs or video drivers & the issue is in the back end, not a display one at all.

Same tuner, different PC hardware; Corruption follows the card.
Conclusion: Issue is not PC hardware drivers.

Same hardware, different tuner driver versions; Corruption continues regardless of driver version.
Conclusion: Issue is not a driver version issue, but this doesn't rule out some version-spanning issue in the driver.

Overall Conclusion: Issue is some kind of issue with Hauppauge tuner cards in Win7 or is a common issue with Hauppauge Win7 tuner drivers.

The only spanner in the works here is the fact that Allen has tried a different tuner card altogether and is still seeing the same issue, but I'm not 100% sure now if Allen's issue is the same as what I'm seeing... Allen, does the corruption I'm seeing look like the corruption you're seeing? Also, are you able to take a physical look at both of your tuner cards to see if you can see any similarities in the tuner modules? I guess there might not be much to see however as they are shielded... Maybe we can find the tuner module chipset information on the net? (found this on the Hauppauge cards)

smac, I just had a thought that perhaps the revision of your Hauppauge HVR2200 is different to my brother's (might even use slightly different drivers), and this might be why his works and yours doesn't... Also, are you in a position to be able to run up a temporary WinXP install to see if the issue goes away?

This could still be some general issue with some tuner cards and Win7, although I would have thought that it would be much more widespread than what we're seeing.

The TsReader logs you posted earlier indicate you have signal quality issues. It may be intermittent if you haven't observed the problems in XP, however I think you'd find they show up in time...

Yeah, we were running XP for months with the same card & aerial, no issues whatsoever. Also, if I plug the aerial it into the HD tuner in the TV it's perfect. Even now, XP is perfect, Win7 shows corruption within minutes or seconds.

This may be irrelevant but on my PC the Hauppauge signal meter has been running all afternoon and signal quality is C/N 33, zero errors but media centre is showing signal quality between 54% & 90% today depending on the channel mux.

My problems are worse when the PC is doing something else. I suspect there is a resource conflict somewhere. The PC is for all intents and purposes idling.

Allen, I just found this in my MP notes which may assist you with your jumpy framerate:

Issues with High CPU & low / stuttering framerate (DXVA / Video Acceleration not being used)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not 100% sure what fixed this issue when I solved it last, but there are some of the things I played with (AFAIK, I returned them all to their original settings but it was still working properly).

For a start, when viewing the GPU loads in GPU-Z; when DXVA / hardware video acceleration is going, the 'Video Engine Load' will be more than 0% (55% on my 8400GS) & 'GPU needs to be more than 26% (50% on my 8400GS)

Stuff I played with:
- Disabled & re-enabled DXVA via SAF start menu options (reg key mod)
- Turned VNC video hook driver & full screen polling on/off
- Disabled & re-enabled 'Remove Wallpaper' & 'Disable Aero' in VNC Server

I guess you've done a clean install so VNC is probably not the issue, and you have low CPU usage, but I just thought I'd post that anyway in case it helps :)

The thing that gets me is that the errors occur in the same place when you watch recordings back, and that the issues occur independent of software. If that is the case then the problems are being inserted into the source. The only ways that I'm aware of that this could happen are:
1. Signal issues.
2. HDD issues.

If it isn't 1 then check that you haven't got an AV scanning your timeshifting and recording folders. If this is happening independent of software then it seems unlikely that this could be the cause, however I guess you never know.

To be extremely clear: if the corruption is logged in TsReader logs then this is a *source* problem, not a rendering (video driver, codec etc.) problem.

Just done a motherboard BIOS update. I'll report after I've watched for a while.

I did however notice that the BIOS option for PnP OS was set to "No" IE allow BIOS to configure PnP devices. This is the default setting.

What should it be? Or dosn't it matter?
I'll do a full windows backup and try changing it to OS later and see what happens.

Hi Allen

I've wondered that myself - recently changed from BIOS to OS control on Windows XP. I was hoping it would help with a specific problem that I have with certain cards in my PC that aren't recognised during boot sometimes. When they're not picked up, rescanning for devices in device manager wasn't helping. The change doesn't seem to have helped for me. I don't think it would help with your issue either.

Backup was just in case Windows got corrupted after changing the setting.

I havn't seen any serious pixelating/stutter issues since the BIOS update even when doing a backup and system image to my NAS. I won't get my hopes up just yet but fingers crossed...
