Oops - watching telly via my satellite box - bam - frozen screen.  Guiltily, I assumed that my STB had locked up since pushing buttons on the remote elicited no response.  Then I saw that the display on the front was still responding.  Bugger - the HDMI output on the STB must have died, or the display process crashed.

Well - not so.  It was actually much simpler, but very annoying all the same.  The HDMI plug was falling out of the socket in the back of the TV.  If I wiggle it, I can usually get things up and running again, but bam - there it'll go again.

It's not wear and tear - TV and cables are under 1 yr old.  I've tried a different HDMI cable - no improvement.

I'm thinking of wrapping a bit of teflon tape around the plug to bulk it up a bit.

So - is anyone else having trouble with insecure HDMI connections on a Panasonic 50V20 or similar?

I once had a graphics card that had a loose HDMI port. Turned out that the rubber thing that's suppose to keep the HDMI line secure was pushed out of the socket.

Long story short, i fixed it by opening the computer up, pushing the rubber layer back into the socket, and everything was ok again.

I'll get in behind the telly tomorrow and have a close look at the HDMI sockets and see if there is anything different looking about them. Thanks for the idea.
