mcraenz: Yeah that's the manufacturer's official shop. Gonna run MP?

probably be running fortherecord as the server and xbmc pvr for the frontends

Where's the best place to get info on how to set this up?
Is XBMC pvr now working with MP TVServer?

Would be great if it is as then I would just go out and buy a couple of AppleTV 2s and get XBMC on them, if that will work???

theres currently a few separate builds of xbmc with pvr support, the pvr code hasnt been merged into the main xbmc code yet, so not official and still incomplete.  i believe there is a build available for ATV2, havent tested it myself.

google "xbmc extensions" will bring up margo builds which are for windows and have mediaportal and fortherecord support.  or googling "xbmc pvr binaries" will bring up the main builds for windows and linux.

i beleive the MP plugins only work on a windows box ATM, so they wont work on an ATV, the "officially supported/tested" backend will be tvhead i believe (a linux pvr)

currently you can
- watch tv
- change channels
- view/delete recordings
- add timers, these are like "recordings" but are only one off at the moment, so you cant create a "season pass" or anything.  im using fortherecord for the server and just use its webinterface to manage my "season passes"
- tv guide

you cannot timeshift at the moment, which is a bummer, but i rarely watch live tv so not a huge concern for me.

mcraenz: Ok yeah I think that supports mdapi?

yeah it does.  also it has a concept of "tuners" which are computers/servers so you can have a mediaportal tuner, where fortherecord will be the server but it can ask mediaportal/gbpvr to actually do the recording.  not sure if streaming live tv works via this though...

mcraenz: The idea is to not use the Sky dec at all. My TV's are just big monitors, MP for EVERYTHING. Guide data just comes down from satellite, no need to mess around with xmltv or scraping. The TBS cards are great. The dual card would be a good option too.

Cheers

Took a look at my dish and i think i have a quad lbn now i get how this works you need a separate cable for each receiver and or tuner as one cable goes to receiver in bedroom other one in theater currently.

So I just need to add another two runs and I will have up to 3 receivers under mepo tv server in theater which can play out to rest of htpcs.

So i have bought quad card like yours and the card reader u suggested.

For getting the guide do you need to use epg grabber on the sat setup or just let mepo grab the guide off the cable?

does it get a weeks worth?

currently I use epg grabber and xmltv plugin to get guide for freeview setup in mepo

Yeah you don't need to run separate cables you can use splitters but then you can run into polarity issues if you want to get SBS or Channel9 channels. I had 4 LNB outputs and and a quad card so I couldn't help my self!

Yes MP will grab EIT EPG off the sat, about 8days I think depending on the channel and provider.

!WARNING!
Just realised that this is a new "Sky on HTPC" thread and some of you may have been living under a rockTongue out
YOU NEED AN NZ45XX sky card for this stuff to work. NZ17XX won't work.

Yeah thanks had figured that one from other posts ...how hard was it to setup card reader to function with this sat card and mepo? Is their a guide you recommend to follow?
Also may use the splitter to start as have one in cabinet already sorry not sure of the down side is it only an issue if you try to watch channels on other satalites other than the sky channels? If thats the case I may just split it four ways as not really interested in other content. Also do you still use freeview with your setup or has this made it redundant?

Thanks Rick

You can ask, but be aware they probably aren't to fond of the idea of you using your sky card in a non-approved device. I guess it's a blue card, I think the other one is red. The older black decoder can't take the NZ45XX cards the newer small silver decoder can take either.

have my new mini itx computer all setup (i say mini loosely, its actually rather big, silverstone sg06b), just ordered the quad dvb-s2 card you suggested with their card reader and a extra remote.  not sure if that card reader works (and i dont need 2) but figured it was cheap and if it works i can give it to a friend.  hopefully might be here early next week.

If this is setup using Card reader and DVB-S2 multi tuner cards, can the extenders watch a different Sky channel?

Example, setup HTPC (using Win7MC) and a couple of Xboxes as MC Extenders, can the main TV watch Sky Sport, and the extenders watch different Sky channels?

Also, I assume this will be HD?

ok i have my new TBS 6984 quad tuner.
i have the smart card reader they you can buy with it from their website.

i have a couple of problems
- their smart card reader has broken my sky card, its kind of burnt it where the chip is, and the past on the other side has bubbled. i need to replace it, the settings on the reader were
-- 3.3 - 5v = set to 5v
-- smartmouse - phoenix = set to phoenix
-- --> - 3.579MHz = set to 3.579MHz
-- 6MHZ - 8 MHz - 10MHz - Y5 = set to Y5
I did get newcs reading the card, well detecting the card.

- i cant find any channels using for the record, nextpvr or mediaportal. I assumed I could at least get freeview sat channels with no card connected. but I can't even get freeview. What are the satellite settings I should be using?

and I'm going to have to ring sky and tell them my 2 year took the card and we cant find it, and hope it doesnt happen again.... really didnt think that could happen....

Most likely you've got incorrect LNB settings.  If you dont know the specs for you LNB,  in NextPVR you can try all 11300/11300/11300 or 10750/10750/10750. These are the settings I use on my two different LNBs. You might require different settings, but give these a go.
