Are you in this thread? Looks promising if you can access the 1st partition.


Edit: More googling shows that error 802 was a problem that got a firmware update to fix. Maybe you don't need a drive just an update.

blur: Hi there

I have an annoying problem with my Bose LS-48. The system has started to make terrible noises which sound like the hard disk. When I turn the power off on the system I get an error on the screen of "FAILED 802 Call Bose"

Googling tells me that this is a failed hard disk message.

The drive itself is a Toshiba 40GB 2.5" drive, and is cheap to buy on-line. However I have read lots of threads where people have been unable to get the Bose system software on the drive and have resorted to paying Bose's extortinate prices for the replacement part.

Has anybody had any luck swapping out a drive in a Bose system?

Look at the bottom of that page - this dude seems to have it sorted.
If the hard drive is stuffed then you have obviously lost the music - but at least you may be able to get it functional again.

Apologies. You are quite right.
Having now seen the original cost it would be well worth contacting Bose to see what they can/will do about it.
If I paid that much I'd be somewhat annoyed to lose the HDD after 4 - 5 years.

Paying a lot of money for a stereo won't guarantee a long lasting spinning HDD. It doesn't matter whose name is on the outside of the box - Samsung, Apple, Panasonic, Bose...
However, I'm picking the CGA will work in your favour this time around, but remember, the CGA won't cover labour - so if they send you a new HDD you could be cracking the unit open to fix it. But to ensure a claim goes your way, make sure you don't crack the unit open before the Bose service agents do (just in case they get picky about you opening up the gear).
