A friend has a 1 yr old Samsung LA37C530 that is starting to act up.

After it's been off over night it takes about a minute to wakeup from standby.

It used to only take about 10-20sec before it did the blinking light thing, now its much longer.

Is the TV about to die ?

I dunno, i'm much the same in the morning, and i've got a few years left in me.

It sounds faulty to me. Call the retailer, or Samsung.

Sounds like a dicky power supply. It should be still under warranty (or so close that noises about the Consumer Guarantees Act should have some traction), so that would be the road to take, in my opinion.

99% Positive it will be the usual Samsung TV issue = failing capacitors on the power supply board.

Should be a quick, cheap fix - Free for you as it will be under warranty.

Don't ring Samsung, the TV wasn't purchased from them (you wouldn't ring Clipsal NZ if your new light switch was playing up - you would ring the electrician that installed it)

Ring the retailer:
- Tell them it takes 5-10mins to turn on (it may not take this long yet but if left, it eventually won't turn on at all)
- The retailer should send someone to look at it and/or take it away for repair
- Ask for a loan TV if it is the main (lounge) TV

I also had a Samsung that developed power problems after about 18 months (mine was continually cycling through a power on/power off loop) and apparently they are well known for it. Get it back to the retailer ASAP.

Update;

Tv went back for repair, two weeks later and it was returned.

Problem remains if not worsened.

I had an almost 3 year old Samsung LCD replaced a few weeks ago.
Called Samsung direct.  Quoted the CGA and they told me the TV's have a 3 year warranty in NZ and outside of that period they still have a process because of the CGA.
They took the tv for repair - left a 32" loan TV.  Part was no longer available so they gave me a brand new TV to replace it.  No arguments, very easy to deal with.
