My BD-D8500 HDD recorder/Blu ray has just carked it. Wont record, view recorded content or access smart hub. Returned to store and they have sent it to Samsung.
Did notice a slight hump it the top cover that wasnt there when new ( June 2011).

I'll be interested in an update regarding how you get on, particularly with that "hump".  I had a Samsung HDD/DVD recorder which presented a number of problems, and I have also had a Samsung TV that had power on/off problems.  When I googled the issues, I found many articles that complained about Samsung's inadequate components and/or generally poor build quality.

Now, I'm not slagging everything Samsung does. To be balanced, I have a smaller TV and front loading washing machine that are both Samsung have been working brilliantly for years. But my personal experiences and some of the comments I read did contribute to the fact that when I upgraded to BluRay and to a smartphone, I ended up not buying Samsung products.

Service agent obtained new motherboard from Samsung Australia. Installed and returned to us but after about a week it did the same fault. Returned to service agent who have been dealing with Samsung Australia to get replacement. Lastest news is there is no stock so there looking at a store credit. Not sure I'll get another - maybe a Panasonic DMR-PWT500GZ.
Any thoughts on that?
