huckster: FYI my AMD-based HTPC uses Cyberlink as the H.264 decoder.

430GT has arrived and in the other PC is working just fine with ffdshow. Yet to test others.

What GPU are you using for this setup?

The AMD-system which is the main one for the whole family is a 780G motherboard which has the 3200 HD GPU. This works perfectly well with the Cyberlink PowerDVD codec.

The "play" PC which now has the Nvidia 430GT (after the 8500GT started misbehaving) works with everything I have thrown at it - ffdshow, Microsoft DTV and Cyberlink. I didn't find the ffdshow to be quite as good as the others when viewing 1080i channels.

Hi Huckster,

How well does it the 3200 deal with 1080i video?  The 5450 really does seem to struggle, seems to also struggle with SD stuff sometimes too... I do wonder if I have a gimped 64bit memory interface version.

Anyhow, I'm now the owner of a 430GT Nvidia Asus card... will try that one now!  Sky is fine through the system for decrpyting, just playback was dodgy.... I'm looking forward to silky smooth playback with no or minimal frames lost!

Chris

3200HD works fine with 1080i. It was depressing rtying to get it working at first but with Cyberlink's PowerDVD codec it works.

There have been issues with the 5450.... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/archive/index.php/t-1360236.html

Once I got it working, I haven't dare touch it!

Yeah don't I know there are issues with it!

GT430 is now installed.  I've somehow killed my MS decoder so WMC7 will no longer do any video! However, LAV CUVID has made the whole MP setup work flawlessly.  Perfect 1080i and SD channels now. fluid and sharp!

All I need now is a quad tuner to go with the twin DVB-S2 and I'll be happy!
