Hi there,

I have just joined Geekzone because the people I already know on here seem to have such fun. Having read some threads/posts already I am fairly sure I am not geeky enough to warrant a spot here but who knows maybe I will become so engaged that I level up in the geek world.

I live in Wellington and work as a Primary School teacher but my real passion is eLearning and the use of technology, gadgets, software etc to engage and stimulate teaching and learning. I attended the ULearn conference in September and was blown away by what is out there in schools (and workplaces) already and I just see untapped potential for our kids.

Away from teaching I love learning about new technology, apps, software etc but I am fairly black and white. I will give things a good go but at the end of the day I like what I like. If its OS or user interface doesn't speak to me, or is illogical and time consuming then I will drop it and turn my attention to something else.

So, that is me. Whether I find a place for myself on here or not remains to be seen but I look forward to browsing the forums and seeing what news/events are being discussed. If I can join in, then all the better :)

That's a very spammy reply to an intro. Put some context with it, or people are likely to ignore it and think the worst...

Haha yeah, realised that after I posted, but I didn't want to double post.

Fraser Speirs has been doing an experiment in elearning i the uk for a few years. He set up a 1 to 1 ipad to student ratio and has documented the changes to the learning environment in the school.

Would be a really great read for someone interested in elearning.

Oh, and of course welcome to the GZ.

Thanks everyone. That blog looks interesting, thank you. We are going 1:1 as a trial in a class this year and I will be investigating new methods of doing ePortfolios with my class. The fact is, none of this technology is new, or scary to kids. It's their world.

Currently exploring Evernote too as I think it may have some cool classroom / education uses.
