Hi there! Hope everyone is well.

I have moved here from the UK, been here since last Friday.
Getting used to the fact I have emigrated to the other side of the world!

30yrs old. Work (well did) in IT (looking), love gadgets and tech stuff!

Based North shore at the moment in Whangaparaoa, but looking at apartments in Auckland CBD.

ISP my main research at the moment... which one????!!!! Orcon has appealed to me.

Nice to stumble across this type of forum.
I have experienced the slowness browsing to international sites over the last few days as well; A frustration for sure.

Thank you.

Welcome to New Zealand Shindig, and why would you ever want to move out of the sunny North Shore? :P

I know people will bag me for this but I have been with Telecom for a few years now and had no problems.

On Total Home package which includes phone line rental and free national calls

Same here too Jimmy. I have had really good and reliable internet service from Telecom over the past 3 or so years.

Welcome to New Zealand, and Geekzone...

You will find out the most reliable ISPs are Telecom and TelstraClear. You might have a bit of a problem with TelstraClear help desk though, but I found out (after being a customer for twelve years) you don't really call them anyway. TCL is not the cheapest though, and Telecom is a bit limited in plans. Other than this if you go with Orcon make sure you keep the modem safe and keep receipts of everything - they seem to charge people for non-returned modem/routers even if you send them back when switching ISPs.

I actually had a 30 - 40 minutes talk with the TelstraClear CEO today, will put things together for a blog post tomorrow...

Telecom, TelstraClear, XNet (who have now fixed "their" backhaul problems) and Orcon would be my recommendations.
