Hi you lot!

It has been a while, but I'm back. This time, I'm here to ask for your help in regards to laptops.

I have had this nifty wee laptop for a solid two years now and have pushed it to the absolute limit. It is giving up the ghost and I'm ready for a shiny new replacement.

So. I have a budget of exactly $1000. Are you as a community able to recommend a really decent laptop for that price? I am going to need it to be able to play 720p HD videos without the fans overreacting and have enough RAM to run Photoshop smoothly without any lag.

What's hot and what's not? Give me your opinions and I'll make an informed decision.

Really appreciate the help guys. Cheers in advance.

~TomHax :)

Just been through this exercise, and ended up with a Toshiba i7 but my budget was slightly higher.

Did find a lot of retail shops still had series 2 processors and they were heavily discounted to clear. There were many examples of $1300 - $1400 laptops being discounted to around your price point. Other than being the last model processor still well featured and would easily do what you are asking. I would suggest checking out your local retailers and see what they are trying to get rid of.

@freitasm Any specific Dell recommendations?

@scuwp Hey thanks for the input! On the topic of Toshiba.. thoughts on this:

Looks a bit clunky. Not necessarily easy on the eyes but functionality wise, it looks like it really delivers. That 1gig graphics card should help out with HD video a lot right?

I wouldn't have a recommendation - except that you should look through the Dell web site and check some of the laptops based on the budget you specified here (before your purchase of course).

What did you buy?
