jonb: There is this 13.3" QHD (2560x1440) HP laptop on sale from HP in the US, with 20% off using voucher 'PC999CM'  for under US$1000.  Can customise it to i7, 8GB RAM and 64bit, and with YouShop shipping and added GST should still come in at about NZ$1300.

I would have figured it would be more like:

$1140 NZD with discount applied(950 USD)
~$100-150 youshop
Which is $230-240 duty on top

Which makes it the 1.4-1.5k range

You're right. 1200 NZD + $100 shipping, +15% GST = $1500

It seems the Spectre models in NZ are all limited to 1366*768, unless there is some other way to customise.

A wee update...

Ordered my T440s on November 26th, the website said orders would ship in 8 days. After numerous delays my current ship date is January 10th, to be delivered on the 17th. I got a call saying there is a shortage in the particular RAM needed. Lenovo's problems shouldn't be my problem.

I'm wondering whether I should cancel my order but the configuration I chose at the price I got is too good, I don't think I could bring myself to let go of that.

So my T440s arrived yesterday :D after all the complications with shipping I'm pretty stoked. This is an awesome beast, the 1080p 14" touchscreen is fantastic. Build quality is reasonably good, my backspace key can get sticky but that's about the only issue. It's otherwise ridiculously solid. Although a lot of people associate Thinkpad's with big bulky black boxes, I think Lenovo have really refined their utilitarian look into something beautiful and understated.
