I'm thinking of buying my first laptop around Christmas and have been looking at some upcoming models yet to be released in the US (or recently released).

I was wondering:

  1. How much are laptops 'overpriced' in NZ? As in, if it costed $400US in the US (around $500NZ) then would it be above $500? How much usually?
  2. How likely are laptops to be released at all in NZ? I'll probably be looking at the ASUS Transformer Book T100.
  3. How much longer after the US release are laptops usually released in NZ (if at all)?
I know it's quite a lot to ask and it will vary a lot, but any idea is good. Thanks!

it depends

I'd estimate:

1. say 30% extra, thank the NZ Consumer Guarantees Act for your "free" extended warranty

2. it really depends on what the retailers here in NZ think they can sell as to whether they will bother ranging it at all. The Asus T100 Windows 8.1 hybrid laptop will be coming out here

3. it depends (again) but maybe 2 months

Does anyone know yet when the Asus T100 is being released here?  It was released in the US today and am eagerly anticipating it, seems the perfect solution for daughter starting high school.

Did some more research - any word on the Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga? The previous Yoga wasn't released here since it was Ideapad line, but don't know about this one.

Where do you find out the dates and such, anyway?

Half of that will be gst.
American prices are almost always quoted excluding any applicable sales tax. Nz prices are almost always quoted including gst.

Looks like the T100 has been released in Australia and is selling for $595 (64GB), so expect it will be $695 when its released in NZ?
