Ascent has two models available:

i5 128GB http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?itemID=434131
i7 256GB
http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?itemID=434132

These should be NZ stock considering they aren't known to sell parallel imported goods.

sidefx: I see the latest pbtech flyer for this weekend has the Surface Book listed (i7 with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD) I guess parallel imported - I wonder if they will have a display model for it; quite keen to see one in the flesh.   Bah on further investigation it looks like it's some sort of pre-order advert with release listed as 03/11...

definitely parallel import.  SB doesn't have a NZ launch date.... yet.

its a custom chip

It looks like a variant of the nVidia GeForce 940.

However, rather than 2GB of DDR3 we’ve modified it to have 1GB of DDR5 – presumably for more of the graphic artists versus the gamer.

wasabi2k: Holy balls the Surface book is expensive.

Sooo pretty though. I see they haven't specified what the nVidia graphics is - I am picking a 950m level card?

yes its expensive.  But you generally get what you pay for.  And Surface Book is quality.

Did you see the price of a MacBook??

vs. a MacBook Pro 13 ~$350 more buys you a:

higher resolution slightly larger screen
touch and pen input
digitizer/pen/stylus
8 megapixel autofocus back camera
5 megapixel front camera with depth IR sensor
more battery life
faster 6th generation Core i5 CPU vs 5th generation

2n1 detach, ability to turn the screen into a 700gm clipboard when you feel like it. I think it’s worth it over a 13” Macbook Pro

It's a shame only the top of range Surface Pro has the 512GB SSD option. Would be good to see this at a lower price point e.g. a Surface Pro i5, 8GB, 5120GB SSD.

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster and even more now as they are upgrading their rural Conklins. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend $195 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?
I install - Naked DSL, DSL Master Splitters, VoIP, data cabling and general computer support for home and small business.

Sigh...same issues reported by Dan above.

Clean installed windows 10 but still no go. It is currently upgrading itself to version 1511, 10586.

Will report back on my progress.

Not a happy camper after shelling out 3k based on this experience so far.

Yea, it's not a good start :(

Just checking where did you both go for your recovery version? I used:

https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-nz/support/warranty-service-and-recovery/downloadablerecoveryimage

For latest SP4 image.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49498

For the latest pack of drivers / firmware for SP4.

Also ran the recovery from USB drive through boot (volume down + power button)

glad to see it wasnt just me, but its a rather poor effort from microsoft for such a "premium" device

anyway doing complete wipe and reinstall from scratch fixed the problem for me, worked on it most of today, setup couple dozen apps and it was flawless.

i rebuilt it from SurfacePro4_BMR_155_2.114.0.zip with a memory stick,

I didnt use the driver pack that image had all the drivers, and only a firmware update come through from windows update no driver updates, so assume that image has
all the latest drivers, but need to double check

is the warranty for surface pro 4  suppose to be 1 or 2 years? its only showing as 1 on the microsoft device manager.

I think its 1 year technical support and 2 years hardware or something along those lines. Did you register the device ID etc on:

https://myservice.surface.com/en-NZ

Make sure to register your cover and the tablet, as they have a separate warranty.
