Hi Guys,
Thanks so much for all your help. You are all brilliant and were pretty well on the money. We went to do what you suggested with the Dynalink modem, pushing the reset button with a pen. But we then lost all connections. We found a guy in our little town who came down and reconfigured the modem and got us all up and going again. How lucky was that. Anyway, he reset all the configurations for the wireless and the ethernet and it all worked again. He has now taken my computer to clean it up, get rid of a virus I think I have and put some new and extra RAM into it. Tomorrow night I will have it again.
Anyway, thanks so much once again. This is an amazing site, even for us wannabees.

I thought "reset" was to have meant "turn it off and turn it back on", also known as "power cycling" (get it?).

What you did instead was "factory reset" or "hard reset" (as opposed to "soft reset" as in the above example). That was always dangerous if you didn't know how to set things up again!

Oh well, glad it will be fixed. And you sound like you are a keen learner - did you ask the guy to show you how to set it up? Always good to have a networking expert living on site :) And your extended family will appreciate it too! :)
