Well, they are fast and reliable - if there's stock of course.

Well... my opinion of DSE has gone way down. I went in today to pick it up and give him two thousand dollars, and the guy says "oh - I phoned them yesterday and cancelled the order."

Idiot.

He did that after I took my deposit back (because they hadn't delivered on their very clear timeframe promise), and I said "If I haven't bought the Acer off you today, I will still get the Mac tomorrow".

He felt that was a cue to cancel the Mac order.

Ugh.

Phoned Palmerston North branch, and they are couriering it to Hastings, no deposit required. Couldn't have been more helpful.

And after all this, when I said "Geez, all I want to do is buy a Macbook if at all possible." he did not offer to place the order again!

This is something I've noticed with some DSE staff: they don't sell, they expect you to buy.

When I checked the Mac mini in store at Featherston I told the guy "Is this the right price? I am not sure but I think the Apple Store does it cheaper".

If the guy was smart he would just say "let's check the price in any of these PCs already connected to the Internet..." which of course he didn't. When I left the store I checked the Apple online store on my Pocket PC and the price was the same. But I was so irritated with the guy that I decided that it wasn't worth my effort to walk back ten steps into the store and buy from him.

I then drove home and stopped at DSE Johnsonville. The sales person there called Featherston and asked to transfer a Mac mini. Featherston replied "No can do it". I guess they were afraid of losing their comission - but they ended up losing the sale altogether because I drove home and ordered online directly from Apple.

I'm in the market for a MacBook as well. Not sure if you've bought your one but www.toshcomputers.co.nz seems to be the best place to get one from. They sell the base machines with 2GB RAM as standard (not the crappy 1GB you normally get) and their prices seem to be a lot cheaper. Anyone had experience with these guys?

2GB RAM is standard now on those.

I went to their website and saw a big banner with a white macbook on it saying they are in stock now, so phoned him to confirm an order, and he said they had none in stock, wait till Friday.

I can probably get a NZ one by then (It looks like theirs are imported from the states).

Anyone had a warranty experience - good or bad, with Tosh?

Ordered a white 2.4GHz MB from apple.co.nz last night. Decided that 160GB in a laptop is more than enough space. Will probably upgrade the ram to 4GB myself at some point, though 2GB is enough to have XP in a VM running all the time for the few Windows apps I require.
