So a friend just rang me up to ask about sourcing him a machine 'just for xero' for use out in the field. In his case this is quite literal as he's a fencing contractor/small business owner.

I was thinking of a toughbook style laptop when he mentioned his only worry about an iPad solution was the 'minimal 128gb storage'

Having never used Xero on a PC/laptop or tablet I have no clue on the iseablity of the product on different devices, though I'm certain the 128gb storage on an iPad wouldn't be an issue at all!

So criteria:

NEEDS:
1) must run Xero in a familiar (for him) and fully functioning way
2) portability and battery life- should last a whole 12-16 hour day with 'constant' use
3) cellular connectable- able to be used without tethering or wifi

Likes:
A) rugged and outdoors suitability (solved with a case for tablet if neccisary)
B) able to be used when 'dirty' and easy to clean off after
C) as easy on the wallet as possible (sub $2,000?)

All advice appreciated in advance, thanks!

Xero is a web based system so any device with a browser will suit

Any laptop. I think a keyboard would be really useful. Why would a fencing contractor be on the laptop all day? Surely a few hours battery life would be sufficient. Microsoft Surface perhaps?
