Hello I have an early 2013 15" Macbook Pro Retina and want to buy an external monitor – 24" to 27" I think. My knowledge of Thunderbolt is VERY flakey though and so I don't know where to start:

1. Should I use the Thunderbolt port or the HDMI port?

2. Note according to this I have Thunderbolt 1 which I think limits me somewhat – I don't know how? I read something about 10GBPS or 30mhz?

3. I run my 15" Macbook screen at it's native resolution of 2880x1800 and like that. I have no idea what sort of resolution I should aim for when I am using a 24"-27" screen though. It is for work which is mostly reading/editing etc on the web, a very small amount of Photoshop. Do I need a 4K monitor to match the native resolution of my Macbook and ensure it doesn't look wonky?

Could even pick one up as part of this sale at JB - http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=164&topicid=208197
