Hi All

A family member is of for their  big OE, first travelling to hot/wet countries before finding work in Europe. Backpacking etc

So Notebook or small Laptop?  features needed.... a robust build..and

I expect lots of web browsing, films (when stuck in airports),, calls home...and I expect in Europe use in an office as holiday disappears and becomes work. Oh yes budget means it needs to be amazing value for price.

So it will need to survive being in a humid will need to be able to take a bump or two....

Features I expect it will need usual USB, in built good webcam, great storage capacity(for photos, video)..migrate to cloud storage when connected, able to work on poor wifi connections, able to run HDMI connections to larger screens...oh yes battery life ideally amazing....(maybe a spare battery) or ways to get double or better battery life when mains power is limited e.g. power packs).

Suggestions on best travel apps for phone and notebook/ help when things go wrong....or when you need to stay connected

e.g. currency converters, apps like Airbnb - communication apps (voice over internet)..what is the best for voice and video communicating software - great quality but efficient - especially if WiFi connections are not media etc...are there new apps out there that should be considered...list of travel apps/

Budget, means we need to get a great buy...maybe last years model that is now been cleared....what is the right size, right build (great to travelling) battery life or ways to extend it.....can work with limited wifi capability....but when in europe can take advantage of all the functions needed when working back in mainstream, MS office etc.

Best ways to protect, both physical and software...anti virus/malware..without killing performance.

Suggestions...what and where to buy.....and what to run on it. e.g. some apps are lot more efficient that others...and don't drain the battery?

Your suggestions would be appreciated,

Many thanks in advance

What is the budget?

It will help if you give actual numbers on what size you want the laptop to be, how long the battery should last etc.

Use a 13" laptop. I use a Dell XPS 13 - has everything but HDMI port. 10 hr battery lfe if you get the low end version.

But webcam will show your nostrils it's at the bottom left corner of the laptop screen.

From here

choose the $1349 one for best battery life.

Involuntary autocorrect in operation on mobile device. Apologies in advance.

No advice for the device but one App I wouldn't travel without is Tripit.

Hello If I am not wrong you asked two Questions, Best Travelling Laptop/Note & Best traveling App.

Let me Answer your first question

In my opinion, the best travel computer in the world is the MacBook Air. It's powerful and extremely light. The 13 inch version is .68 inches thick and has a battery to last 12 hours. 512 GB Flash Storage will make everything you do fast and snappy. Depending on what version you of the new MacBook Air you get, it'll either have a 1.6 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor or a 2.2 GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 processor that can Turbo Boost to 3.2 GHz (I recommend the second choice greatly).

If you are not an apple fan, I recommend you to take a look at Lenovo ThinkPad x1 series, you will get bored before the battery gets low, if you are looking for the mainstream-oriented laptop, take a look at the Dell XPS series.

Now here are few best traveling app

1. For Travelling(Google Flights)
2. For Planning (Pen and paper)
4. INSPIRATION (Product Hunt)
5. COMMUNICATION (Slack and Skype)

I hope you find these suggestions helpful
