Hey all, one of my Xmas holiday projects is to get a HP Mini laptop refurbished for a family member. So the HDD is getting replaced by a SSD, and I need to find a replacement battery as the one in it has pretty much stopped holding a charge. I've found a few TradeMe sellers stocking them, but the stores seem to be US based which seems a little dodgy. There seem to be a few sites around selling them, but the sites all seem a little dubious... The least dodgy looking one I've come across so far seems to be - tho even they seem to be actually Aussie based.

Does anyone have any reputable sources they've used for this kind of thing? The usual suspects like PB Tech don't stock the battery, probably due to it being a relatively old model.

I purchased one for my HP Probook the week before Christmas from this trademe seller.

So far so good.

I would not recommend doing any business with Laptopbattery NZ Ltd, based on my personal experience dealing with them.

I purchased a $1200 ‘refurbished’ laptop from the company in May 2014. The laptop failed in September 2014 after four months of use. They insisted that their 3 month warranty, which had expired, applied.

My argument was that a laptop, even a refurbished one, should last longer than it did and cited the Consumer Guarantee Act (CGA).

I returned the laptop to them for assessment and repair.

After some very drawn out email correspondence between myself, and their General Manager; Sales Manager and Company Director they stated that they were unable to repair the machine. They refused to refund my money or acknowledge any liability under the CGA.

I took them to Disputes Tribunal (Small Claims Court) and got a decision in my favour. In accordance with the CGA any goods sold should be fit for purpose, this laptop wasn’t. The arbiter agreed and decided that I was entitled to a full refund. I’ve heard nothing from them since.

They were very slow to reply to (my) emails and have not acknowledged my claim or the court order/decision. End result, they have the laptop in their possession, they can’t/won’t fix it and they refuse to refund my purchase price.

While some of the names involved with this company appear to have changed or moved on, the Company Director is still listed as a ‘Partner’ on their website

Please do not confuse them with the company using the similar web address with a TLD. I have had no dealings with that company and believe that they are an entirely separate, unrelated, un-associated entity.
