I am very out of touch with the prices of repair these days as I do all my own but I noted with interest the following auction for a Chrome book shows an inspection fee (Third picture). Is $100 for an inspection fee really the norm these days ??

That's about right, that's a little under the normal going rate for an hours labour.

Service+ charge $90 to inspect, but will refund if the unit is repaired under warranty

Some places still have $0 min charge , a few others have more than $100 . My work has $55 min charge
For a notebook, $100 seems reasonable, as it takes time to strip & diag , and it sorts out the serious customers from the tyre kickers .

We still get many who see even the $55 minimum as too much, so what are the chances they will pay want it actually costs to repair ?
:-)

I always view the $0 ones a bit sceptically in terms of what work actually needs doing to offset the internal cost of inspection.
