Im looking to get a laptop, but must be capable of playing Overwatch.  Im not too concerned about getting 100FPS on Ultra settings, just something that will run it decently on fairly standard settings.

Looking at video cards for laptops, Im confused with the AMD range - they refer to R4, R7, R8 etc. I take it R8 is the later model of card and would best to look at ?

Something along the lines of this is what Im looking at - https://www.justlaptops.co.nz/dell-inspiron-15-fhd-touch-a12-9700p-quad-core-8g-480g-ssd-backlit-4gb-r8-m445dx-12353

My desktop currently has a RX580 - so how would the R8 compare to that ? Obviously the desktop card will win overall, but just to give me an idea..... I use to run OW on a GTX760, and was happy......

TIA

Go somewhere like gamedebate.com which does graphics card comparisons.

https://www.notebookcheck.net/ is a great source for mobile graphics comparisons. It is confusing as anything with the multiple model naming conventions etc, not to mention the fact that different laptops with the same card can perform differently.

I did not have great experiences with laptop AMD cards before - granted that was a few generations ago. NVidia's software/drivers seem to be far better. Depending on budget 1650/1660 at the lower end of expensive is really good performance.

I bit the bullet and got an Asus Strix 2 with an RTX2070 - spent a small fortune but runs everything at 1080p Ultra.

It's not only the card that limits you. You need three things

1.specs, which you have asked
2. thermal design may be your biggest issue
3. Actual thermal performance

I'd look for nvidia 1650 or 1660 and a 1080p screen.
You could have rtx 2070 but if your screen is 4k then bye bye fps.

If money is no issue then gigabyte aero 15 apparently has desktop like thermal performance.

Yeah, Id love a nice $1800+ laptop but funds are limited at this point :) Hence looking at the "budget" end for now ;)

I could just buy a Switch instead :D
