have a dell XPS 16 from 2008 that still works and boots as fast as my latest 9th gen dell inspiron.

though i've had to warranty 2 screens. that's out of my 7 dell laptops.

but they don't get heavy use and they all thermal throttle with gaming.

don't buy them for gaming.

Had pretty good experience with Lenovo laptops, quite a good price for last years X1C.

My wife refuses Lenovo laptops, she says they're ugly. Not a bad price on the Lenovo. I quite like them, I've had them as work PCs twice, I had my Mum get one which she broke the monitor of by closing it quickly with something between the screen and the keyboard (no idea how), and they're often good value. Their lower range ones are still good and are a good price.

We'll pick up the Probook from PB once they tell us it's ready - probably today I guess. Though it's so wet I might leave it a day.

Again a bit late. I've had four Elitebooks in the past six years for work. They've been perfect, I have to return them after two years to IT, but they seem less filled with bloat than my partner's consumer model and I couldn't see why they wouldn't work perfectly beyond that. And while they don't get worked particularly hard (excel and outlook) they travel a lot.

I think my current one is an 840 G3.

I've had an XPS for about two years and has been brilliant, but that's for personal use, Premiere Pro etc.

The Lada of the laptop world. Solid, reliable, but not pretty...

So far the HP Probook seems good. It seems robust, really fast, nice screen and keyboard for a laptop, and 13.3" screen size is good for portable and desk use - given use of an external monitor. I like the fingerprint reader too. Better than the 5 year old Toshiba ultrabook at about 1/2 the price or so :)

Batman:

Lada is reliable?

Wikipedia thinks so "... Lada gained a reputation as a maker of solid, unpretentious and reliable cars for motorists who wanted to drive on a budget."

Was poking around PBTech found a $100 cashback on the Probook we already bought! It would've been nice if PBTech had mentioned that.
