SpartanVXL: The reason people are asking you to use ethernet, that realtek gigabit in device manager should be a physical port for you to try use.
Did you try the solution mentioned in the first post of that Asus thread? It mentions using a particular driver version and changing mode from 802.11ac to ax.
I don't have an ethernet Port on my laptop, unless I need to try one of those USB Wifi Adapter Dongle thingies?
I haven't tried the solution in the Asus thread yet, I'm worried something wont be compatible and will completely screw up my laptop lol. Is it safe to mix and match between brands?
I did however just do a rollback on the MediaTek MT7921 driver, will see if that changes things or not. I think this is a good idea?
rscole86: Are you sure it doesn't have ethernet?
Between the HDMI and power ports, or the USB A and USB C ports. It looks like it's partially covered, but has the icon with 3 or 5 boxes joined by a central line.
Otherwise, did it come with a USB to Ethernet adaptor?
Ok, so played a game just before, within the first few minutes same thing happened. I then did something I haven't done before, went into settings and turned wifi off then instantly back on, and could browse Chrome. Next time I lose connection in game, I may tab out and do the same and see if connection comes back, however I'm hoping there can be a permanent fix instead.
So it doesn't get lost in translation, here's what I've tried so far
Potential fixes to try tomorrow
All in all, it seems like this particular Wireless Card has major problems. And again, I ONLY lose connection when playing this game (It may happen with other games, but this is the only game I play, might be a problem with my Laptop connecting to Steam servers? Who knows)
Should I try ethernet or Asus Forum first tomorrow? I'm thinking Asus forum as it's more than likely I'll be on wireless going forward anyway. There's definitely nothing for me to worry about, because my laptop is HP and that's the Asus forum, I'm worried about it not being compatible, but I guess different brands use the same drivers?
Thanks heaps once again everyone
I would not install the ASUS driver, but do the ax change
Also goto https://support.hp.com/nz-en/drivers/laptops and get the latest wifi driver for your laptop

Good morning, I went to do the ax change, but it was already showing .ax, not the .ac change that was posted on the Asus forum - So that wont work either
I have just done the HP Support Driver update, and got one for the wireless driver
I installed it (Well I thought I did), 3.5.0.16 Rev.C - From March 8th
However 3.01.1281 is still showing when you check it via Device Manager (It's dated from 9th Jan)
Just going back to the advanced settings in the network adapter, I did read somewhere last night something about roaming aggressiveness, I have absolutely no idea what this means, however mine is currently on Medium-Low.
Another random thought, is it possible my router is too outdated for something on the laptop? The router is a bog standard 2Degrees supplied one, Fritz!Box 7560. Perhaps they aren't talking to each other correctly?
It's just bizarre it ONLY happens when playing Age Of Empires. Googling around others lose their connection totally doing anything and everything, even a BSOD. But for me it's just playing one simple game.
Not very likely, but double check the router's firmware is current.

Thanks mate. Will do that, how is it done again? IIRC have to chuck some numbers into Chrome...?
I recommend not sinking any more time in trying to fix your unreliable wifi. Just swap out the card for something better.
This is the top of the line Intel wifi. $57 NZD. Or this is basically at fast but cheapter and more compatible. iJust make sure you Google your specific laptop model and confirm what kind of M.2 card you need.
Hey folks.
So I haven't gone out to buy a new wifi card or anything of the sort. Tonight (Yesterday now), I was losing connection a bit while playing AOE, and even every so often watching a few Twitch streams. The past wee while it's been fine, but have noticed past few days I'm losing connection every so often.
I did notice while googling some things and checking it out myself, that my Protocol (Going into settings- Network & Internet-Wifi) is currently on Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n), this is bad, right? I've got the Mediatek wireless card currently on 802.11ac, are they essentially talking two different languages to each other and that could be my problem? Could my router (Fritzbox 7560) just need a firmware update? I've never done it, nor do I have any Fritz software on my laptop so I'm not sure how this is done.
I did also find This post on GZ from Sept 2020 which mentions the update. Here are the specs of the Fritzbox
Thank you very much.
set it to the highest profile, ie ax and it will use the rest

Morning. I've had it on ax previously and have had problems. I can put it back to ax for a day or two though and see if anything has changed.
I'd really love to update my Fritzbox firmware though, I've never done it so it's easily 7+ years old.
