Hi I have a vaio laptop and was working perfectly fine when I went to sleep. I work up today and and the screen is really dark. I actually thought it was complety broke at first but could see faint outlines when I held it at a funny angle and hold a torch real close. The picture is still there and I can really slowly read my way around things.

Would this mean that the backlight, or inverter is likey to be broke?

Has anyone here had any experience with this and do you know what may have caused this?

do you sleepwalk? might have stepped on it - I have had a broken screen, which sound simialr to what you describe, but i couldnt see anything - was kaput.... but it was my flatmate who broke it, in a drunken state (WTF was she doing in my bedroom while I was sleeping, I dont know *shudder*). She never paid for it either, and that was one of many reasons why I moved out 2 weeks later. But that is a whole 'nother can of worms

Has it been raining where you are?
I had a hp nx6120 do that, in dry weather it would come right again sometimes.
I sent it back to be fixed under warrente the suplier refused to fix it so
I pulled the botom of the display out to get at the inverter found some carbon on the output end
cleaned it dried it then squrted it with silicon spray it has worked fine ever since.
