So in just 10 months Ive had to make 2 warranty claims on my Dell Inspiron laptop.
First the LCD died and then the Power adapter...

To their credit they have replaced both parts within days - excellent service!  but Im seriously wondering if I should take out the extended warranty and whether this whole experience is good or bad???

Should I be buying another dell laptop at all ever?

Do laptops just seem to be like this or is dell just not as good as others?

I personally have never had a PC faulty at all in the last 15 years - my desktop is at least 5 years old and still going perfectly... 
Have I just been lucky?

I own a Dell M1330 and I got the extended warranty on it after I read about the problems with it's graphics card. I have to say, it's been worth it.

My screen died once, then later the graphics card died. Both times replaced and quickly.

Really the question to ask yourself is: How long do you want this laptop for? My M1330 I got spec'd as high as I could get it. I use it all the time and I'm happy with it, I don't need another laptop. So I got the extra cover to protect it for the life I hope it will live.

Laptops tend to fail more often than desktops etc because you're always moving them, they're small and they get HOT which is what makes things fail.

If you think you'll want it around for another couple of years, I'd buy extended support. It'll be cheaper than it would be to get Dell to replace bits if they do fail out of support.

Just my experience with my Dell. Hope it helps somewhat.
