I need a new laptop screen for my DV5-1006tx laptop. The screen is displaying a dark vertical band which gets worse or better if i flex the screen and doesn't go away with a res change. But it is not visible on an external monitor.

Online i've found a few different screens which would apparently work but with differing resolutions. I presume if the connectors are the same that a higher res screen will be all good?

Is it likely just an inverter that's giving me strife rather than the screen itself? In which case where can i buy one of them? It's a bit tricky to know who to trust online as the stores are not local at all.

Anyone been through this process?

From what you discribe, it sounds like the LCD its self is faulty. Take the screen out, get a model number off the back and grab one from Ebay.
