Do not buy Compaq as a disclaimer.

Hi, I have the above mentioned laptop and am having some issues with getting connectivity online.

I had a Belkin Wireless G Router for about a week and everything ran fine, no problems getting on the internet at all.

2 days ago I disconnected to Router because I lost the need to use it, and blocked myself back into just the cable modem and thought everything was going fine.

Then I clicked on Firefox.

Nothing happened.

So I checked my ethernet connection status and noticed I had a 169 address. I called Belkin who told me to contact my ISP (Comcast) who told me I had a Winsock issue and that I should call Compaq.

Compaq techs cost 45 dollars for a simple fix. Nothing doing.

They have the worst customer service alive BTW. On the phone for 6 hours just to get told that there was nothing they could do to help without me paying on top of paying top dollar for the Laptop AND the extended warranty? No thanks.

So here I am, (on the other computer) I've looked up online topics about winsock fixed and tried them all with no result. I've Reinstalled Windows and System Restored, still nothing.

What the H do I do short of using the restore disks?
