WTF, I opened a clients machine today for a dust n stuff as it was getting very very warm and Discovered this in it... Pictured beside the real thing I replaced it with... Apparently the machine was bought in China or Singapore. and was a bl00dy bargain!

FAKE!? you be the judge.. The fake is the one with the silver top bit not the tiny square.

Definitely odd. Even went as far as the processor code and speed/cache/fsb/voltage.

Classic - fake golf clubs and now fake CPU's - what's next? Fake Windows? And NZ wants an FTA with China - great idea we may as well just give them all our IP and be done with it!

Apparently 25% of the China GDP is from fakes so you can really see the Chinese authorities clamping down on it - not.

Glad I am posting this in NZ if I posted in China I could be arrested!

I've posted worse and haven't been arrested yet. :)

Anyway, it goes more than just the appearance. These sellers often 'tweak' the operating system so that when you goto System properties and sysinfo, it will lie about what the clockspeed, make and model of processor is present.

By the time the customer reformats the machine... the seller is usually long gone.

Just so its know, these are only a small percentage of machines there. Usually they are extremely cheap and often less reputable (sold on the street). Of course... DVD's, software, branded clothing, jewelry etc - a lot of it is fake.
