If anyone can offer advice or info would be much appreciated.

My laptop started getting a Blue Screen Error 2 weeks ago with error code 0x0000007A. At times it would run for several hours before crashing and at others 5 to 10 mins. Usually when it crashed a distinct clicking noice could be heard coming from the laptop pointing to the fact that it might be hardware error or thats at least what i thought

Anyways moving things along i called NEC who gave me differing pieces of information, eventually the last guy i spoke to advised me to do a system recovery i.e at the NEC screen when the computer starts up to key F11.

So i ran the program and it scanned the system taking a 'end user image of the partition' or something along those lines.The scan ran fully and i thought it was successful, however since restarting after the scan the NEC screen loads then i get a black screen with MISSING OPERATING SYSEM written in the top left of the screen.

I was told by the support chap at NEC that windows xp proffesional i was using before would still be there but it wasnt. So now am left with a giant paper weight instead of a Laptop.

Any hints tips advice welcome, cheers

Welcome to Geekzone... Because of the clicking noise I think your hard drive is the problem. I suggest having it replaced.

Also you should read this about common causes of 0x0000007A error:

"STOP Messages 0x00000077 and 0x0000007A are related kernel traps that are caused when the operating system tries to load a page into memory from the paging file on the hard disk, but cannot access the page because of either a software or hardware failure."
