Has any one seen the posts on other sites about this http://www.whoistabco.com

There's quite a bit of speculation as to who the company behind this is. Who do Geekzone members think is behind all this hype and what OS will it be running?

Yes, most of the speculation is Nokia.

My picking is it's a well known manufacturer. There are very strong hints that a new OS is involved, certainly quite a different or new GUI compared to the different offerings. I think you can rule out Apple and Android products.  If you read between the lines of all the information that is being drip fed by TabCo it's a major manufacturer who hasn't entered the current Tablet fray. There aren't many out there who fit this category.

That in my mind leaves Microsoft and Nokia to choose from.  It could be a combined effort between the two of them using Nokia hardware and Microsoft firmware. However from what I've been reading Microsoft doesn't have their tablet OS ready yet and probably not ready till early next year.  That just leaves Nokia with a Meego powered tablet.  Last year Nokia were talking of a Meego tablet for release sometime this year and to my knowledge there has been nothing to say this isn't going to happen.

The Meego platform has been about in various forms including Alpha releases for a while now. Both Intel  and Acer are supposed to be releasing a Meego powered tablet before the end of the year.  So it's entirely probable that Nokia have a Meego platform that will be mature enough to release in tablet form, particularly since they have recently announced the Meego N9 handset.

Perhaps indeed Nokia have another "market disrupting device".

Haven't they already released their WebOS tablet.  There's a thread or two on Geekzone about the HP WebOS tablet.

If it wasn't for this fact I'd have them as a possible contender.   I think WebOS has some possibilities though from some comments it still needs a bit of polishing.

A bit more info drip fed from TabCo yesterday in the form of a video.

At first there's not much to see at all, in fact my first reaction was what a waste of time.  However if you watch closely there are several screen shots of the GUI, some of which bears some resemblance to the stuff on this website: http://www.firstelse.com/#/Touch/ThesPlay

These guys were in the throws of releasing a smart phone with their own Linus based OS.  They dropped the phone but said they intended to licence the OS.  Perhaps TabCo, who ever they are, have built a tablet using this OS.  If so it's not going to be Nokia, I wonder who?

Only 7 hours or so to the TabCo announcement about 5 am tomorrow morning.  Is it going to be worth getting out of bed early to find out what's going on?

Yep, that's pretty well my conclusion too at this stage. Not worth all the hype. Once it's been reviewed and theres a few out in tne market place and there's evidence otherwise I might change my mind

Their website is a little light on detail.  For a start they don't mention what frequency bands will be supported for 3G HSDPA or GSM.  Some of the promo videos don't exist.

They inferred a worldwide launch in the lead up promo material but it's only launching in the US and that's in a months time with no indication of where or when it wil be available next.

So far a bit underwhelming.

The "Pin wheel" menu UI looks nice and very much like that used on the First Else phone that was never released.  I wonder what, if any, influence the Else OS has had on the Grid OS.  Else were going to licence their OS.  There's no mention anywhere that Fusion Garage have used the Else OS, they're saying it's their own OS based on Android.  If I were Else I might be looking at claiming copyright infringement.  Could be interesting.

I appears that no one outside of Fusion Garage has had hands on time with either the Grid 10 or Grid 4.  There is no independent information on these devices as yet. I don't see too many pre-orders at this stage considering Fusion Garages past history with the JooJoo and Tech Crunch. Hopefully for them they have got it right this time.

Another one that will die soon... They slashed $200 off the price before they are even available.
