Hi.

I am moderately excited by this as someone who has owned pretty much every Kindle E-Reader that was made, and who considers their Kindle to be one of their favourite electronic devices ever.

Leaks today show pictures of the new device.

http://www.theverge.com/2016/4/11/11407696/amazon-new-kindle-oasis-leak-details-features

I must admit to being very disappointed when Amazon moved away from physical buttons, the devices have never been as "easy" to page turn as they used to, and I found the design of the flagship model last time to be pretty underwhelming,

This looks like it has some potential and I'll be ordering it to see how it works!

It does look quite ugly being wider on one side, and the buttons are only one side, so guessing the screen autoturns. But 20 months battery life is good. Pretty much should never need charging. I wouldn't be surpised if they released a version that will never need charging. Either has a 10 year battery in it, or can generate power from light.

20 months on standby - not while reading. Doesn't look like a useful upgrade from my 2nd gen paperwhite.

They have already talked about a Solar Charging case for it.

I don't mind spending money on Kindles, I happily forked over $199 for the Voyager, but to be fair $289 USD is EYE watering. I am unsure even if this is the 3G version which I consider a MUST have.

I'll PROBABLY still buy it, but if I don't like it, I am going to resent the hell out of Amazon :)

Holy Crap! $359 for the 3G Model! That is insane!

Ugh, WITH special offers as well (Which Amazon will remove for free if you ask them nicely).

The 290 is the sponsored version also. So it's 310 for the WiFi version.

I walked past a guy with an eReader recently that obviously had poor eye sight, as he had huge font, and was holding it close to his face... I was thinking that would be a hassle as you'd be able to read the page in seconds, but I had a chuckle when he started bouncing it off his nose to turn the page.

I would have only upgraded from my paperwhite if they had better support for different formats, handled pinch zoom or something better for textbook reading...and above all else...was waterproof. next version maybe.

As I understand 3G in NZ is working only for amazon book purchases, is this right? Or can you use it for something else too?

Why is it must have for you? For me it's pretty useless :)

I was looking at it but the price is just way to much.  I was able to get a cheap paperwhite wifi/3g for $99 from DSE before xmas but asking a starting price of $290US for the new one is a bit to much for my budget.

I like being able to download books anywhere in the world, at my convenience. I can browse the book store from it (Slowly) as well.

Maybe someone can confirm this, but I had read that it also allows you to view wikipedia over 3g too. No sure if there are any other sites you can use 3g over for free.

It is a high price, but with what Amazon charges for their covers (which is included with the Oasis) it's not nearly as bad as it seems.

The bigger problem is that the price puts it over the GST/customs threshold which makes it crazy expensive by the time you eventually get it.

Especially since DSE going under, there aren't any local stockists.

Not sure about the look of the Oasis. I've got a voyage and really love it. The tactile "pressure" buttons for page turns are great and I love the glass screen especially after the kids have been using it.

I think it looks pretty nice, and they have got the weight down quite a bit. I've got a 1st gen Paperwhite, and the light has always been pretty uneven on it; and i would often prefer to read it without the cover but it is such a mission to get it in and out.

My brother lives in Hong Kong (who i don't think charge any duty when importing), so could get delivered to him and have him bring it over on his next trip maybe.

Unfortunately the ad-free version for International shipping isn't available until 19 July :(
