The mic is not on the touch, It is via a new set of headphones you can buy that has a mic and remote control unit.

That will do!
Where can I get one? :)
And will they work on the old ipod touch or just the new one??
Answer: Just the new ipod touch.Quote from apple:
The remote and mic are supported only by iPod nano (4th generation), iPod classic (120GB), and iPod touch (2nd generation). Audio is supported by all iPod models.
So I need the ipod and the earphones with mic. :)
Any idea when NZ will have them?

Not sure when they arrive, but pre order it now so you can actually get one!

If it is anything like last year, then stock will be very light and you could have to wait weeks if you do not pre order!

Where to buy from?
I see the Apple NZ store has them listed.
It never actually occured to me to look there, I kind of found it by accident. :)
The 16 gig one is just under $500.

Great. $60 discount and iPhone 2.1 firmware included, as well as speakers and the official mic in implementation.

[Looks at my recently replaced iPod touch]

The bad thing is that the new chrome backing now goes further to the edge than the first generation (though the metal used is pretty soft and does also give a sharper edge to the iPod too)

I saw some cases online that an army truck could run over, lol. They bulk it up too much for me though. There is a sleeker version by the same company that look really good. Here is the super tough one: http://www.crunchgear.com/2008/03/10/review-otterbox-armor-series-ipod-touch-case/
and here is the one I think is more practical for daily use: http://www.otterbox.com/ipod-touch-defender-case/ as it is, I'm using the Belkin leather one: http://ipod-touch-cases.com/belkin-leather-folio-for-ipod-touch-0214.php which I'm finding adequate for jacket pocket use. :)
