Oz is getting ITMS - maybe we will too? Is this good? Is this bad? (Taniwha??)

Has anyone heard any baseless rumours about NZ?

NZ's ITMS? hmmm thought NZ are considered as part of Australia, since many company group NZ together with Australia in most of their country listing when you go to websites...

I have also managed to download a song from it. Apple's terms and conditions clearly state that you must agree not to access the service from outside of Australia, so it's interesting that they don't appear to have done anything to prevent New Zealanders from accessing it.

Comments on specialised Macintosh forums suggest that the numeric sequence of credit card numbers issued in New Zealand is similar to those issued in Australia, and it is therefore difficult or impossible to tell a New Zealand user apart from an Australian user. It'll be interesting to see if Apple manages to plug this hole, but it surely must have been one of the issues raised during the drawn out negotiations between Apple and the record companies.

I'm not really sure what to make of the whole thing, because it was always widely believed that the iTunes Music store would be launched in Australia and New Zealand at the same time. Evidence of this included the fact that the recording industry is represented by the same body in both countries, and the fact that people have managed to make the iTunes Music store produce New Zealand specific error messages in the recent past. Not extending today's launch to New Zealand could indicate that there is an additional cost involved in supporting the service here and, because New Zealand is such a small market, it's unlikely that Apple can justify that cost.
