while browsing for something unrelated, i found the following link to a custom firmware for the WDTV which you can use to add network support, CIFS, NFS, FTP etc

i dont have one of these, but this sounds like a useful firmware to turn the wdtv into a cheap NAS box..

im playing with this at the moment with a WDTV LIVE (network built in model)

Working well so far, still sorting out my movie sheets which are looking really good.

lots of forums with lots of help:http://forum.wdlxtv.com seems to be the best
