.........
No, I still give up. Telecom NZ's network is obviously not stable enough for Android 'World Phones' like the One X.

richirvine: we don't give details on where a particular update is at.

Why not? Why does that PR rubbish not say why it is too hard for Telecom to give an update(on the updates)?

richirvine:For the 'every other network has it' feedback, every network is different, we owe it to our own customers to test updates thoroughly - again, like in the post, we feel that's the best thing to do to give customers the best experience.

You act like every other network in the world doesn't do testing. The difference is that EVERY OTHER NETWORK IN THE WORLD has managed to release updates for the HOX, that fixes bugs and increases performance without introducing any new bugs. Telecom has NO EXCUSES. Why cant Telecom at least admit their in-competencies?

Also the PR piece says that most handsets that are returned are done so due to software bugs, does that mean I should be able to return my handset to a Telecom store and get a refund, it is in fact very faulty?

As the 1.28 updates were available prior to Telecom releasing the HOX and since Telecom released the HOX on the 26th of April it has so far been:

104 days Days with out an update or 3 months, 13 days.

Well what do you know, mine is updating at the moment. And I only checked an hour ago!

Guess I should have given in much earlier. So does anyone have an accurate date that 1.29 was released into the wild so I can mark on the calendar for the next one.

Still, thank you for FINALLY providing the update.

But no-one in the world has stock OTA higher than 1.29. That is why I was asking how long 1.29 took so I can mark the calendar once 2.XX is released.
But look at this as step one on the road to forgiveness.

4.0.3
sense 4.0
1.29.781.14
htc sdk 4.12
htc extension_403_1_GA_7

kernel 2.6.39.4-gc9932b1
baseband 2.1204.123W.17
build number 1.29.781.14 CL62864 release keys

Edit: Too early for much but battery appears to not go down at as great a rate. I'll give it a couple of days of normal use to assess without the placebo affect.

First impressions - no better, UI still laggy, and am now seeing a delay from pressing the power button till the drag ring screen shows of many seconds. Not had the loading carryon when pressing home yet but still have had monster delays from pressing home to seeing anything happen.

Certainly not a silver bullet for performance issues. Since the phone has twice the cores of the SGS2 I wouldnt expect a fraction of the performance for the user interface.

richirvine: Guys, wanted to come back in and address some of the feedback, that I can.

The blog post was designed as a generic background or an explaination on our testing programme, applicable to all handsets and updates - like I said before, apologies to those wanting updates on the One X update. Again, we don't give details on where a particular update is at.

For the 'every other network has it' feedback, every network is different, we owe it to our own customers to test updates thoroughly - again, like in the post, we feel that's the best thing to do to give customers the best experience.

We only recommend using the software supplied by us, as it's been tested by us, and we endorse it. Installing ROMs from anywhere affects your warranty.

FWIW I own a One X also - my own experience has been that battery life is comparable to other smartphones I've had (Sensation, Defy, Milestone), I charge it every night. I've seen the odd screen flicker, but sporadically and nothing major, and have seen the 'waiting' logo pop up occasionally when switching applications. A restart ususally sorts that out. Yes, I'm looking forward to the update too.

So yeah - point(s) taken. I hope the blog post was of some use, even if you disagree with it - understand the frequent posters in this thread are more interested in software updates than words at this stage.

Thanks Richard.

The frustration that I have personally is some of these issues (home screen reloading for example) I get almost every second day.  For a business tool some of the bugs are very annoying, and when (what appears to be) the rest of the world already (months ago) have the "fixes" it seems to add a salt to the wound, for lack of a better word.

The process does not seem very transparent at times, and perhaps it does not have to be (as the vast majority of general users prob never care/think/need the update), but us geeks love to know and have the latest.

We know you don't have to have a online presence here and I am sure we all appreciate the time and info you put into coming to the forums. Thanks.

Cheers

Hey guys, this is my first post :)

I own a HTC One X and i'm lovin' it more than maccas - yeah..i've had the odd issue here and there but with every smartphone i've used (motorola atrix 2, defy, sensation, SII and a couple of earlier models) i've always had little niggles so I pretty much just accept it as normal nowadays.

Anyway..

the OTA update came through to my device this morning

4.0.3
sense 4.0
1.29.781.14
htc sdk 4.12
htc extension_403_1_GA_7

kernel 2.6.39.4-gc9932b1
baseband 2.1204.123W.17
build number 1.29.781.14 CL62864 release-keys

Where can I find info for what this update included?  Better battery life has been mentioned which would be great - but is there an official release notes or something from HTC/Telecom?
