For example if someone was switching a mobile from Telstra Clear (On Account but contract expired) to Telecom Prepaid and the handset is confirmed capable would that person need to purchase a Telecom Sim or can the Telstra Clear Sim be "changed" to work on the Telecom network?

If your telstra phone is the nokia 2730 then you will need a new handset as well.

Exactly what i thought. However about half an hour ago i phoned Telecom Prepaid to port my number in the circumstances explained above. After talking to three different people i got "the person" who could help. He only said he required the Telstra account number and the mobile number i was bringing to Telecom.

I questioned him on the fact i needed to bring this number to a Telecom Sim, he said i didn't and in 24 hours the Telstra Sim would "convert" and work on the Telecom network. Having ported numbers regulary for myself, friends and family etc and this being the first time i'd heard this i inquired further and he was adamant i didn't need a new Sim, he provided the reference number and we ended the call. 

I phoned back for a second opinion and i'm still awaiitng the call back promised (i don't expect to get it)

It's a Telecom purchased handset Nokia Asha 300 so that will work just fine.

You will need a Telecom supplied Sim Card.  Normally as part of the porting process you would either tell them what the IMSI (Sim Card Serial Number) is, or they would post the Sim out to you.

Most of the time it's easier to sort out in-store taking the phone you want with you.  Since then the person in-store will check the phone is compatible and get the sim all setup and good to go.

Great so Telecom have screwed it up yet again by the sounds of it. I dont need to go to a store as i know its compatible, i have a Telecom SIM to transfer the number to etc. All i need is the call centre to know what they are doing and process what i ask.

I just called back for the third time and received an extremely helpful lady (NZ Based) who has taken all the details, updated the order and taken feedback for the appropriate team leader. All seems proper now and should be fine :) So much trouble for such a simple thing though Telecom please make sure all your team actually know what they are doing, do what they say they will do and follow through in future it's becoming such an issue (not just with me).

Not so easy with Telecom, if you don't go into a store you have a 50 / 50 chance with an operator. It can't be done via a web form as with 2D and VF.

It's a little unclear on where you're bringing your number from (or maybe I missed it as I've yet to have my morning coffee). Just to confirm you're bringing a NZ mobile number range to us?

Yea sorry like I said I haven't had my coffee, I was reading TelstraClear as Telstra. All good, just need a new SIM as everyone else has stated.

It is probably not in the OP's / Geekzone's interest for you to try and alienate the Telecom people who take the time to come to these forums to try and help by jumping on them asking a question for clarification.
