I have a corded telephone, that is labelled with "Rental" "Property of Telecom Corp NZ" on the bottom.
It has just broke, would Telecom repair it?

About a million years ago, you used to be able to rent the old plug in push button phones off Telecom as I recall.

No they don't repair them, because they're no longer their prooperty.

In the old days you rented a phone. At some point (?around 1995ish at a guess) the rental scheme was canned and all phones became the property of the account holder.

While on the topic if anybody has a red Pert phone I'll happily swap it for a dozen beer of your choice. I want a cool retro phone for my desk next to my Polycom and Cisco.

I see someone has one of these on Trademe at the moment... Bit more than a dozen beer at $90 though...

Yeah there are a couple of sellers who flog them off as collectors items. Old red rotary dial phones are also very valuable.

I just don't believe they're worth $90..

I would call the manufacturer Alcatel. I am pretty sure they'll cover it lol.

Before you call, just make sure you have not dropped it or exposed it to any liquid otherwise you may find it is out of warranty.

Good Luck :)

Telecom stopped supplying new rental phones at the end of 2001 but  was still charging rentals and maintaining existing phones up to July 2007 http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/BU0706/S00097.htm

No one thought much of any phone when they were new. That was especially true for the Pert. Unfortunately many of the more stylish models were decadic only and not much use now.

In their day the old candlestick phones often had covers made to hide them.

I may actually be able to help you there.... my father worked for Telecom for many years so we ended up with all sorts of phones kicking around the house. Suspect there may still be one or two in the garage... wont know until I get out there in a few weeks tho.

Reply from my father...

"Yes! Have one screwed to garage wall! I don’t know what condition its in .ps worked when it was put in!"

Gave a quick call, he said its a brown sort of colour tho, not a red one and the cabling may need some TLC.  If interested Mr Biddle, Ill pick it up next time Im at his house and send it down to you. I suspect theres probably another one tucked away in the garage somewhere....  I remembered there was a cupboard full of phones when I lived there.
