K1w1G33k: Just signed up for VDSL on 150GB plan :D

Fingers crossed for good speeds!

That's the plan I am on, too :) I'm on day 2, currently getting 22/9, but that's using a dodgy wireless dongle - hopefully it'll improve with a decent wireless card (when it arrives in a week or two). So far I'm pretty happy, the upstream improvement alone is worth the extra $10 per month, IMO.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Can you post your speed and ping when you get your new card? I like seeing peoples speeds.

Sure. I posted one on the previous page while connected by cable, but they're still messing with my profile, so I will wait until the card arrives (by which time the DLM should be set) and I'll do a before and after. I've been rather obsessively checking it since it was installed!

Yes can do too, next Wednesday is the install date :)

Currently get 13.5 MBit down and 0.85MBit up on ADSL2+ with 33ms ping to Snap Chch server via Speedtest.net (hmmm easier to post that result but typing this from work) ;)

A month after my install I can report that my connection has been very stable and has settled into a 32Mb down / 9.5Mb up on the Telecom Speedtest.

Pretty happy with that.

Now to sell my Draytek Vigor 120.

Had VDSL installed on monday, was syncing around 33 down on DLM-6 all going well. Up to today my DLM has not changed but this evening we had a power cut affecting a large area. When the modem reconnected it started syncing at 36 down but still on the same DLM-6.

Can your sync speed change without a change in DLM? Do power cuts effect cabinets? (if so would this have changed anything)

Hi that level of change is trivial and probably just a result of a resync, nothing actually changed.

Sync speed is not directly linked to DLM, so yes it can change without your DLM profile changing. Power cuts are unlikely to effect cabinets, as I'm sure most have a UPS.

I had VDSL installed 10 days ago with 15.5db attenuation reported by my ADSL2+ modem. I'd already installed a VDSL compatible splitter and CAT5e cable many months ago so when the Chorus guy arrived he was in and out in less than 5 minutes.

Frankly I was surprised Telecom would allow me to be connected with 15.5db attenuation, and I wasn't expecting a lot, but I must say I'm blown away by the improvement and general reliability of the new connection. I went from sync rates of 12Mb/s down and 0.8Mb/s up with ADSL, to currently 23Mb/s down and 10.3Mb/s up with VDSL. I know that DL figure is lower than most are getting, but we're pretty close to the fringe. My Telecom Speedtest currently gives me approx 21Mb/s down, 9.6Mb/s up, Ping 10ms.

I started off on DLM6 and found it changed every two days, moving towards what I think is DLM-1 but with INP=0.00 and Delay (ms)=0.00 I'm not sure. Interestingly, during these 10 days my d/l sync rate has slightly reduced each time the profile changed.

More importantly I can now stream Youtube HD pretty much always when I had lots of problems even with SD streams. If anyone's on a marginal line like me, I'd really recommend taking the plunge, assuming Telecom will let you.

Better than UPS the gear runs on 48VDC, so the cabinet is loaded with batteries and charger/inverter sets, so a lot cleaner supply than a 230V UPS type setup.

Sounds like a good experience. As for the 15.5dB on ADSL2+, the attenuation it is based on is the ADSL1 profile (1.1Mhz) so you were probably very close to the limit anyway :)

How far are you from the roadside cabinet to be getting these speeds?
