My response to that is to ask you why you want to do this, and whether you actually know that the noise margin is?

A 26 - 28dB connection while delivering OK performance isn't by any means a brilliant connection.


Gain more speed, and more upload, every KB/sec of upload speed is important for me. 

I don't know actual physics of the Noise Margin (anyway i have read wiki and some other resources.), but i know that:

* 6 db is a standard(default), provides high speed and normal stability. Everything lower is not good. 

* 12 db more stable connection, and lower speed. But seems it is useless setting in some scenarios.

12 db is the standard in NZ on all Chorus gear whether it be an ISAM, DSLAM or ASAM.

Most ULL providers have opted for 6 db or 9 db because they believe they can get away with it. The compromise is that they are are more likely to suffer issues from noise or crosstalk which is becoming a growing issue in some MPFs with growing VDSL2 uptake.

Chorus could easily reduce their noise margin but clearly have the stats to show they believe it's the best noise margin to be running and don't like going down the path many ULL providers are having to with individual profiles for multiple connections.

I have lowered it to 10 now.

DSL Downstream Rate: 14987 Kbps

Will see how it will work, stability check. Dont know how to lower upload Noise margin, thats why i think i will get back to default after tests.

DSL Transmit Power: 18.9 dBm 12.4 dBm


Stability of connection during 12 hours: Exellent.

Do not try it , until you are 100% sure what you are doing :)

I think i will go back to default settings, after some more stability check.

6dB seems pretty common for the default in other countries for ADSL2+, Chorus  using 12dB seems overly conservative.
