I live in Christchurch but when i go on speedtest.net it says im in Auckland which is physically impossible i haven't lived there since i was 10 lol  It says i can check my location out and gives a google map link , i checked it and it says i live in Mt Eden Prison ? When i click to refine my location it says no better location is available.

Its normal, I think its just the GeoIP not having detailed information, but the ISP IP range is registered in Auckland, so the maps point you there.

But going from Telecom to Snap may not always be the fastest route. It depends on the interconnect from Telecom to Snap as to if that is a faster path or not.

It's pretty straight forward to change whichever server you want to use.  Otherwise I recommend you use the internal Telecom speed test.

I get the same results on speed test as well as telecom speedtest. I like the look of speedtest and it logs all of my speed tests so i can compare them and you get a cool graph ,and i can do speed waves :D

funnily enough I live in AKL and my IP is reported in Christchurch.

Which must be why all those totally legitimate ads tell me there are lovely ladies waiting to chat near christchurch...

As explained before, this is all based on the ISP physical address registered for that IP range. It's not your actual location.
