Downhillnz: So what happens at the end of the trial at this stage? Is this looking to go forward. Will users currently get warned before the end of the trial if they need to find a new provider or not?
Just for clarification sakes.

metalla: Certainly seems that way. Hopefully it can go back, otherwise, anyone in the market for a really great modem router?

I've lagged on the last 2 ISPS I've been with.
Detruire:Epicwhale: Is it not possible to stream 1080p on twitch.tv without lag? (on ADSL)
ADSL doesn't even have sufficient upload bandwidth to stream 720p.
EDIT: Assuming that you mean you're the person streaming. ADSL is usually sufficient to watch 1080p Twitch streams.

No, this is watching streams.
I can't watch any 1080p streams without them lagging every 5 seconds.

I don't watch twitch myself usually, but just tried a couple of streams on 'high' (the highest setting I could select) and seemed to be working just fine. (Bigpipe VDSL, syncing around 46Mbps).
I can't see anywhere to select 1080p specifically though. (Do you need to be a subscriber to do that?)
These are the two streams I tried and both worked no problems.
http://www.twitch.tv/avilo
and
http://www.twitch.tv/colminigun
(I like starcraft 2)
I even tried streaming them concurrently (both at the same time) on high with no problem at all.
Do you have any specific streams you are trying to watch that aren't working that I can try out?
Epicwhale:
I can stream high when there's only 1 computer on in the house.
The Source setting on any stream lags constantly though.
(sorry by 1080p I meant Source)

Are you using wifi?

ok, I didn't realise you could select 'source'. I thought it was just the heading of that box and 'high' was the best you could get.
Just tried the vid on the homepage (currently "Nadeshot") and selected 'source'. I got a minor buffer for 2-3 seconds about every 30 seconds or so.
I also tried this one
http://www.twitch.tv/marinekingprime (another SC2 one) and it seems fine in 'source'. no issues at all having sat and watched for 3-4 mins
One thing to consider is that this isn't like normal VOD, where the content already exists saved on gigantic servers in some data warehouse and where you can buffer well ahead several minutes in case the connection isn't perfectly stable.
Twitch streams are in real time and broadcasting from somewhere in the USA, from someone's house where their connection itself might not even be that good. i.e. if their upload is struggling to broadcast 1080p, then your download speed is totally irrelevant.
1080p is always going to be difficult for Twitch to serve up in real time at that distance.
With Netflix you connect to the closest 'local' server where the content sits ('local' being LA for Netflix) but with Twitch it could be anywhere in the world.
I suspect this is just the nature of NZ being on the opposite side of the world and there isn't a whole lot you can do to get around it.

I never thought about that too be honest, woops.
The SC2 one didn't lag on source for me either so I suppose there's nothing I can do.
Thanks for the quick reply
