Hi all,

I've just had Telecom VDSL installed and its resulted in a good improvement in speed, from 16 down and 1 up to 29 down and 10 up. The Chorus tech off the cuff suggested I could expect speeds of 30+ down once the line was tweaked with DLM.

So far its been 5 days and its gone from 27 down to 29 down, a slight improvement and better than nothing.

I'd like to know what is a realistic expectation in terms or speed improvement?

and

How long does DLM generally take? aka have I hit my limit already or will it take the full two weeks?

Line Attenuation per the Technicolour TG589 is  (Up/Down) [dB]:16.5 / 7.9

If this i my lot I'm a happy camper, but I'm just curious to understand what to expect from DLM in a bit more detail.

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

 


 

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

 


 

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

 



 

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

DLM is a process Chorus run on your VDSL line for thr first two weeks the line is setup.

Basically there is very little you can do apart from not rebooting your modem for the first two weeks.

There are a number of good threads on geekzone about it just search for them in the Telecom and Snap forums.
